Capture the Flag
Don't be fooled by the size of this game; whilst not being visually stunning the fun gameplay really starts to reveal itself in the ingenuity of the strategy. Each team, computer or human, has a number of team members with their own unique skills. The skill of each man defines how fast they can run, or how well they can hide, see or defend against attack. Using these skills and the terrain of the pitch to your advantage, you must find the enemy flag before they find yours by exploring their side, not being detected or caught using the various stances that have limitations and advantages in stealth and speed. There is a lot of fun to be had in this game but consider that it might take you a little time to discover it. One major pain is the volume of shareware pop-up.
Conflict - Middle East Peace Simulator
This is, funnily enough, a game about the Middle East. You play the role of Israeli prime minister - an unenviable role at best. Your task is to try and balance relations between Israel and the different states in the Middle East, obviously to Israel's advantage. The game will end when you are militarily/diplomatically successful, or Israel is defeated by an invading army. A very interesting simulation for people who like to follow Middle East politics, this game gave me a surprising amount of enjoyment. It seems to balance the fine art of Middle East diplomacy well with military tactics. It is tough, though, and can get boring after a while.
Hacker 2
As you have probably guessed, you are a hacker. Following on from its predecessor, Hacker 1, this game pits you as a master computer hacker who is contacted by the CIA to help them defeat terrorists plotting to overthrow the government of the United States. Unlike the first instalment in the series, this game generally involves moving a cursor around (with the keyboard) instead of typing commands in. The use of graphics is also heavier in this game, although they remain rather dull CGA and the sound is still PC speaker. A very novel and rather unique game (aside from its predecessor, Hacker 1). These is a small amount of documentation to get you started, but mostly, figuring out how to play is down to you. :-)
Hacker
As you have probably guessed, you are a hacker. You break into a corporate network and discover that they are planning to take over the world. Although this game involves typing commands, it also has some parts with graphics that actually involve interaction with objects. A very novel and rather unique game (aside from its successor, Hacker 2), you get no documentation to start playing this game with. As with real life hacking, you merely start with a login prompt - the rest is up to you. :-)
Sopwith 2
This is a very old, very simple little game that consists of the player piloting a sopwith plane, trying to shoot or bomb enemy buildings. There is a 2 player option, and a single player mode as well as a 'vs computer' mode where the computer also pilots a plane, trying to shoot or bomb your buildings. They're rather difficult to figure out, so here are the keys: Key: Z, X, B, <, >, ? Action: Slow down, speed up, drop bomb, dive/climb, turn upside down(!), dive/climb. Bad PC speaker sound, CGA graphics and the sheer age of this game make it seem rather boring, and antiquated for today. Version 2 of the game is an update to the original that adds speed control for faster computers, awful music and slightly improved graphics.
